Pug Love

pug life
Someone tell me I'm an idiot and that I shouldn't get another dog.  My apartment is small, I would have to pay additional pet rent for her...plus there's double food, double vet bills, double boarding bills...not to mention my family barely tolerates me bringing ONE dog when I go home for the holidays; I think with two I would end up sleeping outside in the backyard with them.

But she's so CUTE.  Her name is Jasmine and she's seven--which means she will be considerably calmer than Muggle (who is a complete and total spaz, by the way).  She's potty-trained and has good house manners, is spayed and very healthy.  And she's FREE to a good home, which is why it's so tempting.  Muggle would love a companion/girlfriend and of course I would just love to have two pugs.

But I'm nuts, right?  I don't NEED a second dog, right?  RIGHT???

To help with my awful anxiety, my new therapist (Dr. Lisa) suggested that I say/write this every day and keep it in close proximity so I can see it throughout the day.  She swears it will help.

  • I will let go of things that I can't control.
  • I am healthy, vital and strong.
  • There is nothing in the world that I can't handle.
  • All of my needs are met.
  • I am completely and utterly safe.
  • Every day I get a little bit stronger.

  1. Whats harder to live without, chocolate or alcohol?  I don't know...probably chocolate because I'm not too fussed about alcohol.  Honestly, I'm not all that fussed about chocolate either, but I guess I like it more than alcohol.  Soda on the other hand...I'm not allowing myself to have it fo 30 days and it's very nearly killing me.
  2. Does the colour yellow remind you of anything?  Not really.
  3. Who most annoyed you last week?  Jim, perhaps.  Possibly Nicki.
  4. Do you have a cutesy romantic nickname for your partner (or previous partners)?  Just the typical 'honey' or 'baby'.  We're kinda boring.
  5. What is your favourite Stephen King movie?  Stand By Me or Shawshank Redemption.

crazy person
I seriously hate men sometimes.  Nothing in the world makes me more crazy than having a man in my life.

I've been involved with someone for two months now, and it's been fantastic.  I have a knack for attracting commitment-phobe men who either don't pay any attention to me or who just couldn't care less if I was in their life or not.  Suddenly here is this amazing guy that's talking to me for hours on the phone every day; texting me every night to say good night, every morning to tell me I'm beautiful and that he's thinking of me; exchaning long, wonderful emails with me where we tell each other absolutely everything...he paid me almost constant attention (without being creepy, mind you).  I loved it.  It has seriously been 10 long years since I've been with someone that has made me feel as good as this guy does.

Suddenly it's not the same anymore.  I still get texts, but they aren't quite as sweet nor as frequent.  Our phone calls are shorter, are emails are fewer between...in fact, today was the first day in two days months that I didn't receive a single email from him.  And I'm hurt.   He's still saying all the right things, and doing all the right things...yet I can't help feeling mopey and a bit neglected by the lack of attention.  I will admit, I'm an insecure person, as much as I try not to be.  I'm very easily offended by this sort of thing.  I try really hard not to be...but I feel that I truly can't help it.   I'm also extremely anxious--combine that with my overactive imagination and you have an instant panic attack.

Is this common?  Do you reach a certain comfort level with someone that they finally decide they don't NEED to email you or text you every day?  The newness is gone, you're 'caught'...now they don't need to make an effort?  I'm not sure what to think, especially since I haven't had what you would call a normal relationship in years.

My anxiety issues make me very high maintenance...and I'm struggling not to freak out about this.  I'm hoping this is a phase, or a fluke, or just a part of a relationship where two people are growing more comfortable with each other.  Or does this mean he's losing interest...?

1. Love at First Sight: Fact or Fiction?  Absolute fact.  It happened to me once, with my first boyfriend.  That was one of the greatest days of my life.

2. Fortune Telling: Fact or Fiction?  Depends on what sort of fortune telling it is.  Tarot and psychics...yes.  The Zoltan machine at the State Fair?  No.

3. Other Life: Fact or Fiction?  I don't know.  I think so, even though it creeps me out.

4. Afterlife: Fact or Fiction?  I certainly hope so.

5. Bigfoot: Fact or Fiction?  Uh...no.  Though one of my friends is a firm believer.  She has some very interesting and insane theories.

chicken dinner

I have successfully been a vegetarian for 30 days.  I tried through Peta; they had a "Pledge to be Veg for 30 Days" so I gave it a try.  I really like and I've decided to stick with it.  Yay me.

chicken dinner
I haven't done too much per week, so I'm lumping three weeks together.  Or is it two?  I can't remember.  My computer didn't save my spreadsheet last time I updated, so some of these may be overlaps...not sure.  Anyway, I've made some good progress.

17. Watch 50 movies in the theater (2/50)
      1.  Spiderwick Chronicles
      2.  Semi-Pro

20.  See 50 movies I haven’t seen (NOT in a theater) (4/50)
      3.  The Family Stone
      4.  Moving McAllister

22. Review 25 places/restaurants etc on Yelp (5/25).
     2.  Go Chicken Go
     3.  Toy and Mini Museum
     4.  Father and Sons Moving
     5.  Kin Lin

Thanks to a wonderful new friend, I've been introduced to some fantastic bands.  Heard of some of them...a few I haven't.
30. Discover 50 new bands (well, new to ME) (7/50)
     2.  the Young Knives
     3.  Pavement
     4.  Scroobius Pip
     5.  Tom Vek
     6.  Yourself as a Pet
     7.  The Cribs

34. Attend 5 events a year (concert, plays, etc) (2/15) .
     1.     Hedwig and the Angry Inch - saw with a friend this weekend.  It was amazing!

54. Get a manicure

88.  Try something new at a favorite restaurant.  I've taken the Peta 'Pledge to Be Veg for 30 Days' (http://getactive.peta.org/campaign/30_day_veg_pledge?qp_source=vegpledgegen), so no meat for me.  I've been forced to try new things.  So at Manny's, instead of getting the chicken taco salad i always get, I got a veggie burrito.  And at Kin Lin, I got garlic broccoli instead of my usual chicken with vegetables.  It wasn't bad...

91. Buy all 'green' cleaning products.  Bought a bunch last week.  (http://www.biggreenpurse.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=73&Itemid=)

93. Gain 50 mutual livejournal friends (7/50)  Got three new ones in the last couple of weeks.  Woohoo!!

1.  What do you see when you are looking out of the window closest to you?

The apartment building next door and a man outside with his dog.

2.      Who was the last person coming into your room?

              Probably Nicole, my roommate

3.      What is the most predominant colour around you?

              Pink, of course

4.      What is right behind you?

              A wall...

5.      What is on today's calendar sheet?

Cleaning, walking the dog, going to the gym...and I'll probably not do a one of them.

1. What song would you sing to your newborn child? (OR if you already had a child, which song did you sing to him/her?)

I've always found Beatles songs to be great lullabies.  The two that stand out the most would be 'Blackbird' and 'In My Life'.

If I had a baby boy, I most definitely would sing him 'Beautiful Boy' by John Lennon.  Such a wonderful song!

2. How do you think animals think? (i.e. in animal language, human language, etc.)

Oh, totally human language.  :)  At least, I've often imagined Muggle's thoughts...and he shows such human behavior sometimes that it seems only natural that he would think as a human as well.

3. As a child, did you have a dream to make a difference in the world? Can you describe your dream?

When I was a child, I wanted to be a tractor.  So apparently not.

4. Do you believe in God/a Higher Being?

Without a doubt.

5. Do you believe in aliens?

I think so...I like the idea, anyhow.  Our universe is just so enormous, I find it really hard to believe that we're the only life form out there.

Weekly Update

  • Mar. 2nd, 2008 at 10:40 PM
how i roll

It's been a pretty good week for knocking some of these out...

26. Get a psychic reading - Done!  I got a reading from Steve McDonald yesterday at a psychic fair.  For the most part, I was pleased.  Well, maybe pleased isn't the right word...I found it surprisingly accurate.  Some of it was crap, but mostly it was pretty good.  I will post more on this later...

30. Discover 50 new bands (well, new to ME) (1/50) - Amanda gave me a lovely cd...and excuse me if I'm wrong, but are they called Qntal or is that the name of the disc?  Whatever it is, I likes it.

35. Start a new savings account - I am TERRIBLE when it comes to saving money, so this is a big deal for me.  I started one up yesterday, and 10% of my checks will go into it.

73. Sign up to volunteer at least twice at www.volunteermatch.org (1/2) - I adopted a soldier in Iraq as penpal.  I have to send her weekly letters and monthly care packages.

93. Gain 50 mutual livejournal friends (4/50) - I gained three this week!  Yay for new friends!

In progress

94. Make a list of 100 things I like about myself - This is harder than I thought...

 1. How long ago did you join LJ?
I joined four or five years ago and have been active about half of that time.  I'm lazy.

2. How did you find out about LJ?
Someone in ISPOL mentioned it once and a bunch of us joined.  I love journalling, so it was right up my alley.

3. If someone introduced you to LJ, is s/he still on your friends list?
Honestly, I can't remember exactly who it was...

4. Have you introduced anyone to LJ?
Yeah, a few people.  Don't think it lasted for any of them, though I really wish it had.

5. Is your LJ public or friends only, and why?
It's public.  I got nothing to hide.  :)

goat braces

Last week I had a mole removed from my arm because it was 'suspicious'.  It had a slight discoloration, so they took it off and sent it away for a biopsy.  Since then, I've had to keep it bandaged up, only removing the bandaid long enough each day to clean the wound and put a new bandaid.  It itched like crazy for a few days, which I figured was due to just having some of my skin sliced off.  Just a few days ago it started to really hurt, and I was sure that the wound had become infected and I'd have to go back in to the doctor's office.  When I took the bandage off one morning, I noticed that I had a perfect, flaming red outline of a bandaid on my arm.  Two days later, it's still there.  A bit faded, but there just the same.  My skin feels almost burnt...and it hurts like a mofo.  I freaked out, of course, and called to speak to my doctor.  She says I'm allergic to latex and that from now on I should make sure that I keep it off my skin.

That is FANTASTIC.  I've never been allergic to anything in my life; then in the last couple of years I develop allergies to cats and now latex.  I hate being old.

I'm surprised at how calm I have become.  I'm normally one of the most high-strung, panicky people in the universe, then suddenly I'm all...mellow.

Something changed in me; I think over the New Year.  Don't know what...or why...*shrugs*

It's rather weird.
